Big announcement: our very own David Brand is standing in the local council elections! Even though he's been a "former" councillor for the past 10 years, the tireless agitation and lobbying for a better built environment never stopped. And the only thing he's tired of now is shouting from the sidelines. So, he's put his hand up again to help steer the good ship Port Phillip.

It's been fantastic in recent times to see a few brave architects like SHELLEY PENN, PHILIP THALLIS, and now DAVID BRAND throwing their hats in the political ring. The political and social structures that generate our development, planning and urban design policies are complex, sometimes dirty and all too often, completely bereft of architectural skill and perspective. Too many architects are resigned to feebly shouting at the television but who will be the champions of built environment quality if we aren't? These passionate people are shining examples and I hope they'll inspire more of us to stop whining and start putting our hands up for the hard work required.
